The US Navy has awarded L3Harris Technologies $876.4 million to continue developing the Next Generation Jammer Low Band (NGJ-LB) for EA-18G Growler aircraft operated by the navy and Royal Australian Air Force.
The modification adds work to the program, including non-recurring tooling and equipment, system demonstration test article pods, cybersecurity and system security development, and support.
Work will be performed across facilities in Utah, Alabama, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Colorado, California, New York, Texas, and Australia, with completion expected in fiscal 2031.
The navy will earmark $3.65 million for research, development, test, and evaluation funds, while $23 million in Australian cooperative funds will also be provided at award.
NGJ-LB Advances
NGJ-LB is an electronic attack system being developed to replace the Growler’s aging AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System.
It is designed to operate in the low-frequency portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing the EA-18G to disrupt enemy radar and other electronic systems.
The latest award follows a $587.4-million L3Harris contract issued in August 2024 for NGJ-LB engineering and manufacturing development. It covered electronic warfare test articles and fleet prototypes.
In December 2020, the navy awarded L3Harris a $496-million contract for final design work and the production of eight operational prototype pods and four test pods for airworthiness, functionality, and integration testing on the Growler.
