The UK Ministry of Defense and several industry partners are establishing a new hub at Royal Air Force (RAF) Wyton to accelerate the testing and deployment of emerging intelligence technologies.
Known as the Defence Intelligence Innovation Cluster, the facility is being established under Project FAIRFAX.
The initiative brings together the ministry, Huntingdonshire District Council, US-based spatial intelligence company Vantor, IT and defense company CGI UK, and technology consultancy MAIAR.
The initiative is intended to strengthen the UK’s sovereign defense industrial base and accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies.
Activities will include development sprints, technology demonstrations, engineering workshops, and mission-focused trials addressing specific military requirements.
Direct input from service personnel will help developers identify shortcomings and refine systems before deployment.
Geospatial and AI Capabilities
Based at RAF Wyton near Huntingdon in eastern England, Project FAIRFAX will work alongside the UK Ministry of Defence’s National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence.
Vantor said it will contribute mission software, AI-based analysis tools, and two- and three-dimensional geospatial data.
The technologies could support collecting, analyzing, and presenting location-based intelligence for military planning and operations.
Additional defense companies, universities, and research organizations are expected to join the cluster.
Their work will cover geospatial intelligence, AI, surveillance and reconnaissance, mission engineering, and space-based systems.
