L3Harris Technologies has signed a multiyear agreement with the US Navy to increase production capacity for components used in Tomahawk cruise missiles.
The agreement with the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division China Lake will support manufacturing of critical missile components as the navy expands capacity for key munitions, including Raytheon’s Tomahawk.
L3Harris has supported Tomahawk production for more than 30 years. Its work includes the Mk 135 solid-propellant booster and the missile’s blast-fragmentation warhead.
The company did not disclose the value of the agreement or a specific production increase.
“L3Harris is committed to continuing high-quality propulsion production to support both ongoing military operations and future combat needs,” L3Harris president for propulsion systems Scott Alexander said.
US Navy Accelerates Tomahawk Procurement
The Tomahawk is a long-range, precision-strike cruise missile launched from US Navy surface ships and submarines. The weapon is designed for strikes against land targets and has also evolved into a maritime strike capability through the Block Va variant.
The navy has been increasing both its procurement of new missiles and its investment in upgrades to existing weapons. Its fiscal 2027 budget request includes $1.52 billion for Tomahawk modifications.
In August, it awarded Raytheon a $22.9-billion contract to accelerate Tomahawk production, citing the need to expand manufacturing capacity and strengthen the munitions industrial base.
Alongside new production, the navy is modernizing its existing Tomahawk inventory. Its Block V program includes navigation and communications upgrades, while later variants add capabilities for maritime targets and improved effects against land targets.
