Rheinmetall Canada has broken ground on the expansion of its factory in Montérégie, Quebec, to scale production of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
The effort supplements 4,830 square meters (51,990 square feet) of manufacturing space and 2,230 square meters (24,004 square feet) of warehousing to the company’s existing site in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
The industrial strategy will directly support assembly, integration, and sustainment of Rheinmetall’s proprietary Mission Master ground drone series and PATH autonomy kit.
“This facility expansion is more than an infrastructure project,” Rheinmetall Canada CEO and President Pietro Mazzei stated.
“It’s an investment in the domestic defence ecosystem and our valued partners from coast to coast. Canada has a sovereign autonomy capability that is ready for production.”

The move comes after Rheinmetall launched three new land autonomy centers of excellence internationally, accelerating development of a wide array of unmanned platforms sourced from the North American country.
Currently, the firm works with a Canadian supply chain network of almost 1,000 small and medium enterprises, including more than 600 suppliers based in the province of Quebec.
At its recent milestone of over four decades of presence in the nation, Rheinmetall announced that it has invested more than 150 million Canadian dollars ($107 million) in local defense capabilities since 2024 and has completed approximately 20 military programs for the Canadian Armed Forces.
