The US National Guard has ordered another batch of mobile Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) systems from Genasys.
Genasys said the latest follow-on order brings the national guard’s total purchases of LRAD communication systems and accessories to $8.5 million, with further orders expected. The company did not disclose the value or quantity of the latest order.
LRAD systems are designed to project clear voice messages over long distances and through loud background noise.
Genasys markets the systems for emergency warnings, evacuation orders, search and rescue, and other situations where personnel need to communicate with people from a distance.
The US National Guard uses mobile LRAD kits during natural disasters, civil and national emergencies, overseas military operations, and humanitarian missions, according to the company.
Genasys did not identify the specific LRAD model included in the latest order. Its product line includes portable, vehicle-mounted, maritime, and other systems designed for different operating environments.
LRAD Use Expands
An LRAD uses a directional speaker system to transmit live or prerecorded voice messages at ranges of up to 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) depending on the model.
The company said LRAD systems have been used by military, government, and public safety agencies worldwide since 2004.
US military use has also expanded beyond the national guard. In September 2025, the US Army ordered $9 million worth of LRAD systems for the Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station Technical Refresh program.
The US Navy has also procured LRAD systems for its ships. A $2-million order announced in June 2025 covered LRAD 1000Xi systems for surface combatants, amphibious ships, and aircraft carriers.
International customers have adopted the systems as well. In August, Genasys announced $1.4 million in LRAD orders from customers in Australia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Lithuania, and Latvia.
