Moog Demonstrates RIwP Turret on Voltaic Marine’s Autonomous Vessel
Moog has demonstrated its Reconfigurable Integrated-Weapons Platform (RIwP) operating at sea during the Polaris Tech Bridge BlueTIDE 2026 event in Newport, Rhode Island.
The RIwP turret was fitted on Voltaic Marine’s AEU39 autonomous surface vehicle, where it demonstrated tracking and targeting capabilities for coastal infrastructure protection, marking a second demonstration of the pairing.
Featuring an electric-hybrid design with solar panel integration, the AEU39 can stay on station for extended periods, supporting missions such as littoral defense and fleet protection.
“Bringing the AEU39 from concept to on-water testing in eight months reflects the pace of innovation our team is committed to delivering,” said Voltaic Marine CEO Richard Phamdo.
“The demonstration showcased how autonomous maritime systems can expand situational awareness, support the protection of critical infrastructure, and help organizations address evolving maritime threats without placing operators directly in harm’s way.”
Following the demonstration, the Moog and Voltaic Marine teams received the 2026 Autonomous Systems Excellence Award.
Adaptable RIwP
Moog Defense Senior VP Mike Gruver said the RIwP was designed with “adaptability in mind, providing operators with a proven capability that can evolve with mission requirements.”
The payload- and platform-agnostic RIwP can integrate weapons, including a 30mm cannon and multiple counter-drone missile effectors.
It features wireless control and increased onboard ammunition capacity for extended engagement duration.
The system has already been proven across various ground platforms, including General Dynamics’ upgraded Pandur 6×6 combat vehicle and the US Army’s Maneuver Short Range Air Defense (M-SHORAD) Increment 4 program.
It has also been integrated with Echodyne’s EchoShield radar and Picogrid’s Legion software to counter drone threats.
