Mach Industries Raises $600M to Scale Defense Manufacturing
Mach Industries has raised $600 million as the defense startup expands manufacturing capacity for autonomous aircraft, long-range strike systems, and counter-drone weapons.
The latest financing extends the company’s Series C round announced in June and raises its valuation to $3.7 billion, up from $1.8 billion three months ago.
Mach said the new funding will go toward developing its defense platforms and expanding the manufacturing infrastructure needed to produce them at scale. Its work spans airframes, propulsion, solid rocket motors, energetic systems, autonomy, and advanced manufacturing.
The company operates a 115,000-square-foot (10,683-square-meter) headquarters and manufacturing facility in Huntington Beach, California, with additional propulsion, energetics, and production infrastructure elsewhere in the state.
“Modern deterrence requires an industrial base capable of building relevant capabilities at the speed and volume the mission demands,” CEO Ethan Thornton said.
Mach Builds Capacity
Mach’s latest funding comes as the company moves from developing individual systems toward building the production base needed to support multiple programs at once.
That shift is significant for a defense startup whose government work has so far centered largely on development and prototyping. The company said its June funding round was intended in part to accelerate existing government contracts and expand its Forge manufacturing network.
In July, the US Defense Innovation Unit selected Mach Industries to lead aircraft integration and development for the Runway Independent Maritime Expeditionary Strike program. The move follows a February US Navy solicitation for a maritime drone capable of launching and recovering with minimal infrastructure and conducting long-range strikes.
The company also unveiled Viper, a compact kamikaze drone designed for long-range precision strikes, drawing on lessons from Ukraine’s war.
Earlier, in March, Mach was developing a vertical-takeoff precision cruise missile for US Army maneuver forces.
