US Army Plans Predictive Logistics Network With FedEx

The US Army will work with a FedEx Dataworks-led industry team to modernize its domestic logistics network, including supply procedures, transportation routes, depots, and other government-owned industrial facilities.

The project is part of the US Army’s Strategic Capital Initiative, which seeks to apply commercial technology and financing models to infrastructure projects outside traditional procurement processes.

FedEx’s planned system would use predictive tools to anticipate requirements, optimize stock levels, and identify faster delivery routes.

Hosted on Google’s commercial cloud, the data environment will be authorized to store and process sensitive but unclassified US Department of Defense information under the Impact Level 5 security standard, with identity management and encryption controls protecting the army’s logistics data.

“We are evaluating transportation routing and modes to cut delivery times across the Army, and transitioning from a dated supply system to a predictive, intelligent network to ensure the warfighter receives critical equipment at the time of need,” said Dave Fitzgerald, Deputy Undersecretary of the US Army.

Initial Planning Phase

The collaboration will begin with joint working groups assessing the army’s existing networks, processes, and technologies.

FedEx Dataworks will examine how the service manages equipment, forecasts demand, maintains inventories, and transports supplies.

A finalized implementation plan for US-based facilities is expected by November 2026.

The army also plans to train military and civilian personnel to manage the new tools.

“Integrating advanced technology will not replace our workforce; it will remove friction and increase speed and effectiveness,” added Fitzgerald.
