Poland’s state-owned defense group PGZ is negotiating with a Ukrainian company to jointly produce ground robotic systems.
Rafal Garmosa, director of PGZ’s international cooperation department, told Ukrinform that the company is closely tracking Ukrainian defense technologies that have provided battlefield advantages, including drones, missiles, and electronic warfare systems.
One of the projects now under negotiation involves ground robotic systems, with the two sides signing a confidentiality agreement in August that allows them to exchange classified information.
Ukraine’s battlefield experience with unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) gives the proposed partnership a practical foundation. Ukrainian forces have used UGVs for more than 100,000 frontline missions since the start of 2026, including delivering ammunition, food, and water and evacuating wounded and fallen service members.
Those systems are increasingly taking on tasks that would otherwise put soldiers in areas exposed to artillery, drones, and other attacks.
The next step is a cooperation agreement that would set out a specific joint-production project, Garmosa said. Ukrainian defense companies are also looking to establish production capacity in Poland as Russian attacks continue to target Ukraine.
PGZ is also separately considering cooperation with Ukraine on the maintenance and repair of Ukrainian F-16s and MiG-29s.
Poland-Ukraine Defense Cooperation
The ground robotics project is part of a broader push by Poland and Ukraine to link their defense industries more closely.
In July, Poland announced plans to declassify details of its military aid to Ukraine from 2022 to 2026, making its four years of wartime support more transparent.
In June, PZL Defence and Ukraine’s JSC Ivchenko-Progress agreed to jointly develop and produce small turbojet engines for aviation and defense applications, while also cooperating on engineering education and workforce training.
The agreement builds on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s February announcement that Poland and Ukraine were preparing to jointly produce drones and other weapons.
