An estimated 30 percent of Sweden’s CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) are set to be assembled in Lithuania, according to a local interview with Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas.
A third of all the CV90s ordered by Finland, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden will be manufactured by enterprises in Vilnius, integrating the businesses into the IFV’s supply chain.
Paluckas added that the Scandinavian and Baltic countries are planning to collectively purchase about 1,000 CV90s, with Lithuania receiving around 100.
The prime minister also revealed that Sweden’s defense industry has been offered to take part in joint projects that will focus on the production of modern weapons, as well as the establishment of new defense plants and factories.
The CV90 IFV is currently in service in 10 countries, seven of which are part of NATO.
A Versatile Vehicle
Sweden’s CV90 armored combat vehicle is designed to withstand subarctic climates, offering optimal mobility in snow and wetland environments.
It can transport up to eight personnel, traveling at a maximum speed of 43 miles (70 kilometers) per hour.
Its modular construction allows it to be fitted with cybersecurity components, as well as state-of-the-art sighting and fire control systems that offer high-hit probabilities against land and air targets.
The vehicle currently has 17 variants, each fitted with specialized components to bolster its forward artillery observation, recovery, and mortar-carrying capabilities, among other features.
