Russia Plans Military Helicopter Service Hub in Peru

Rosoboronexport has announced a plan to establish a new maintenance and repair center for Russian military helicopters in Peru.

Revealed by the state-owned company’s general director, Alexander Mikheev, the hub will offer associated work for the Mi helicopter series currently operational under the Russian Armed Forces, its partners, and former Soviet Union members.

“This infrastructure facility, built under the ROSOBORONEXPORT contract, will open in the short term and will be able to ensure airworthiness maintenance of Russian-made helicopters from all Latin American countries operating our equipment,” Mikheev said.

Exact details on the site’s location and other specifics were not disclosed.

Russian Defense Exhibit in Peru

Rosoboronexport’s service center framework will be presented to the Peruvian government alongside the introduction of other Russian-made equipment to further expand the firm’s reach in the Latin American region.

Part of this effort is a Peruvian defense exhibit in April to showcase Moscow’s locally built Mi-17 Hip helicopter, MiG-35 Fulcrum and Su-35 Flanker fighter jets, Il-76 Candid transport plane, the Orlan and Orion family of reconnaissance/strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and Kub loitering munitions.

Additional capabilities include medical equipment and infrastructure, engineering technologies, and medical evacuation services.

For ground operations, Rosoboronexport will display the T-90 Proryv main battle tank, the Flox 120-millimeter self-propelled howitzer/mortar system, the Tornado multiple rocket launcher, the Kornet anti-tank guided missile with a new warhead called Bulat, and a range of small arms and close combat articles.

“During SITDEF PERU 2025, we expect to strengthen ties between our countries, discuss current and future joint projects, showcase modern Russian weapons, as well as disaster response equipment and machinery,” Mikheev stated.

“We will discuss joint and licensed production of Russian small arms, land forces equipment, air defence assets, UAVs and counter-UAV electronic warfare equipment in the countries of the region.”
