The US Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman a contract to extend sustainment services for the force’s E-2 Hawkeye tactical early warning aircraft.
The project encompasses maintenance, technical assistance, as well as “common and unique” requirements for the E-2C and E-2D variants.
Planes supported by this agreement include Hawkeyes sold through foreign military sales to France, Japan, Taiwan, and Egypt.
Work for the contract will be performed in Florida, Japan, Ohio, and other sites in the US.
The Hawkeye
The US Navy’s E-2 Hawkeye is a 58-foot (18-meter) aircraft with a wingspan of 81 feet (25 meters) and a weight of 43,000 pounds (19,504 kilograms).
It is powered by either two Allison T-56-A427 or two Rolls-Royce T56-A-427A turboprops with about 5,100 horsepower each.
The plane is operated by two pilots, three mission systems personnel, and an additional specialist for optional tasks.
The Hawkeye can reach a speed of more than 300 knots (345 miles/556 kilometers per hour), a range of 1,400 nautical miles (1,611 miles/2,593 kilometers), and an operational altitude of up to 37,000 feet (11,278 meters).
In September 2024, the US Navy acquired new router systems for its Hawkeyes to improve their network resiliency in flight.
