Cyprus has taken delivery of the first two H145M multirole helicopters from Airbus under a contract signed in 2022.

The rotary-wing aircraft modernization project includes the supply of six five-bladed platforms for the Cypriot National Guard, the country’s military force.

The remaining airframes will be shipped later this year under the terms of the deal.

All of the H145M hulls for the Mediterranean state will include Airbus’ proprietary HForce weapons system, enabling the helicopter to deploy for light attack missions.

“With hybrid warfare set to play an increasing role in future conflicts, militaries will seek versatile helicopters that can perform a variety of pivotal functions,” Airbus Helicopters Global Business EVP Olivier Michalon stated.

“In this context, the choice of the H145M is particularly astute and the Republic of Cyprus joins a large group of European militaries operating the multi-role H145M for a wide range of missions including training, special operations, troop transport and light attack.”

The H145M measures 14 meters (46 feet) in length, with a rotor diameter of 11 meters (36 feet).

It is powered by twin Turbomeca Arriel 2E shaft engines, each producing 570 horsepower.

The helicopter can carry up to 10 personnel and engage adversaries with mounted machine guns, rockets, and multi-domain missiles.

H145M has an operational altitude of approximately 5,000 meters (16,404 feet), a range of over 660 kilometers (410 miles), and a maximum speed of 250 kilometers (155 miles) per hour.
