Poland Signs Order for 111 Borsuk IFVs Under $1.7B Contract

Poland has formalized an agreement to procure 111 Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) for approximately 6.57 billion Polish zloty ($1.7 billion).

The contract was signed with Polish companies Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and Huta Stalowa Wola.

The agreement includes training, testing, logistics support, and the development of technical documentation for serial production.

Deliveries are scheduled to start this year and will continue throughout 2029.

“The Borsuk IFV is a fundamental response to the current and future needs of mechanized troops and will be the dominant solution in this area in the Polish Armed Forces in the future,” stated the Polish armament agency.

Features

The Borsuk IFV is a combat vehicle built on a universal modular tracked platform.

It is equipped with the ZSSW-30 remotely-controlled turret system, which integrates advanced firepower with remote operation capabilities for increased crew protection in high-risk environments.

The vehicle operates with a crew of three — a commander, weapons operator, and driver — while transporting up to six infantry soldiers.

In addition to troop transport, the Borsuk IFV supports infantry units through onboard weaponry.

Strengthening Polish Armed Forces Capabilities

Warsaw aims to modernize Poland’s armored capabilities through a long-term acquisition plan.

The Borsuk will replace the post-Soviet BWP-1 vehicle “in order to strengthen the defense potential of the Polish Armed Forces as soon as possible.”

The latest agreement builds on a framework contract signed in 2023 outlining the phased procurement of 1,400 vehicles.

The acquisition includes specialized variants tailored for different operational roles.

It includes ŻUK reconnaissance transporters, OSET command vehicles, GOTEM medical evacuation vehicles, GEKON technical support vehicles, and ARES chemical reconnaissance vehicles.
