Exail Provides Navigation Equipment for Finnish Pohjanmaa-Class Corvettes
Exail has supplied critical navigation equipment to the Finnish Navy for its Pohjanmaa-class corvettes program.
The material includes multiple Marins M3 and Phins inertial navigation systems (INS) for reliable positioning and orientation, along with shock-mounted protection systems for withstanding high-impact shocks.
“This delivery marks a significant milestone in modernizing the Finnish Navy’s fleet, enhancing its operational effectiveness in the strategically vital Baltic Sea region,” stated Exile.
Each ship will be outfitted with Marins M3 and Phins INSs, providing a redundant inertial navigation architecture for enhanced reliability during complex naval operations, even when global navigation satellite system signals are unavailable.
Enhanced Stealth Capabilities
Exail supplies high-precision INS technology to over 50 navies worldwide and supports various naval platforms, including small vessels, aircraft carriers, and submarines.
The INS maintains precision positioning in extended operations, maintaining drift as low as 1 nautical mile (1.1 miles/1.8 kilometers) per 360 hours.
Exail’s navigation technologies adapt dynamically to changing maritime conditions, providing real-time navigation adjustments for consistent performance.
Designed for stealth operations, Exail’s INS minimizes acoustic emissions, enhancing security in high-risk areas and enabling naval forces to conduct sensitive missions with discretion and efficiency.
Finland’s Pohjanmaa Corvettes
Finland’s four new Pohjanmaa-class corvettes are currently under construction and expected to become operational by 2029.
Each ship will accommodate up to 70 crew members and reach a speed of over 26 knots (48 kilometers/30 miles per hour).
The corvettes will be equipped for multi-domain defense, countering aerial and missile threats, while advanced signals intelligence capabilities will enhance surveillance and situational awareness.
