Patria has allocated 40 million euros ($43 million) to expand its Hämeenlinna facility in Finland, aiming to double the hub’s armored vehicle production.
The project includes a new production plant, a surface treatment area, and upgrades to existing facilities.
Construction preparations are underway, with full operational capacity expected by 2027.
Patria has reported strong demand for its armored vehicles, driving the need for expansion.
The company also highlighted that the investment allows for strengthening the EU’s defense technological and industrial base.
“We want to speed up the delivery of current orders, but also prepare for new orders and production of new products, including weapon systems and tracked vehicle manufacturing,” said Patria’s Mikko Leino, Executive VP for Operations.
Expanding European Defense
Patria is expanding its presence in the European defense market with significant orders for its armored vehicles, including its 6×6 and 8×8 systems.
The company has secured contracts for over 800 Patria 6×6 vehicles, with more than 200 already delivered as part of the Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program.
The CAVS program has received 60 million euros ($64 million) in funding through the European Defence Industry Reinforcement Through Common Procurement Act to support joint defense procurement among European nations.
The initiative currently involves Finland, Latvia, Sweden, and Germany.
In the past month, Slovenia and Finland signed an agreement for Ljubljana to acquire Patria 8×8 armored modular vehicles for its military.
Additionally, in November 2024, Latvia awarded Patria a contract worth over $63.3 million to build and deliver 56 armored personnel carriers.
