HII Reaches Over 700 Sales of REMUS Underwater Vehicle

HII has reached a new milestone with more than 700 REMUS uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) sold to customers worldwide.

The REMUS UUVs have been acquired by over 30 countries, including 14 NATO members.

Additionally, over 90 percent of the vehicles delivered in the past 23 years remain operational, according to company assessments.

The REMUS UUV family supports naval operations by providing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.

The systems are also used for mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare, and electronic warfare.

Equipped with advanced sonar and sensor technologies, the UUVs enhance situational awareness in challenging environments.

The systems can function independently or alongside crewed platforms, increasing operational range while lowering the risk of detection and limiting personnel exposure.

The vehicles are also deployed to assist in safe passage for naval and commercial vessels in critical sea areas.

Contracts and Deployments

HII’s REMUS uncrewed underwater vehicles have been widely adopted by the US Navy, NATO allies, and international partners for various deployments.

The US Navy has deployed REMUS in key waterways such as the Persian Gulf, the Baltic Sea, and the Black Sea.

NATO allies have used the system in joint exercises across the Mediterranean, the North Sea, and the Arctic.

Last year, the UK Royal Navy signed an agreement to acquire a fleet of HII‘s Remus UUVs.

The procurement includes three REMUS systems in their 100-meter depth (328-foot) variant and five in the 300-meter (984-foot) version.

In March 2024, the American company signed a contract to deliver a REMUS 620 underwater drone to an undisclosed Indo-Pacific customer.

The selected vehicle can dive 600 meters (1,900 feet) carrying various payloads.

Moreover, HII is currently producing small uncrewed undersea vehicles for the US Navy under a contract valued at over $347 million signed in 2023.
