HII has received a contract to deliver logistics support for the US Air Force’s F-16 Fighting Falcon combat aircraft training devices.

The $182-million task order will focus on engineering sustainment work for the service’s Mission Tactics Trainer – Training System Support Center, which manages the upkeep of simulation platforms for the aircraft’s future pilots.

These solutions are utilized by the Air Force Reserve Command, the US National Guard, and the US Navy.

HII segment Mission Technologies will lead the project in partnership with Arizona-based defense training equipment developer Trident Military Systems for five years in Mesa.

“Ensuring US Air Force operators have world-class training devices that support training of US Air National Guard fighter pilots is essential to a combat-ready force — a critical component of our national security,” Mission Technologies Global Security President Michael Lempke stated.

“We look forward to applying our proven experience in aviation training, combined with Trident Military Systems’ simulation and training services expertise, to enhance mission effectiveness and pilot safety, and support distributed mission operations.”

Currently, the US Air Force has more than 1,000 F-16s in its inventory, with portions used for air defense and offensive, close-air support, forward air control, and training programs.

HII in US Military Training Projects

HII’s latest contract followed an award it signed in January last year to develop a mixed-environment training solution for the US Air Force.

The $195-million initiative requests the design, support, delivery, and maintenance of the solution, which is expected to coordinate hybrid live and virtual training exercises for the joint force.

In 2023, HII’s Mission Technologies accepted a $41-million deal to deliver installation and other assistance services for training platforms at the “largest US Navy fleet concentration site” in Virginia.

The effort covered hardware and software updates, maintenance, management, lab support, cybersecurity, and additional life-cycle work.
