Scania, Volvo to Provide 775 Military Trucks to Swedish Army

Sweden has placed an order for 775 additional military trucks from Scania and Volvo to expand the army’s land-based logistics capabilities.

The contract supports Stockholm’s objectives to amplify movements of “goods, loose load carriers, and vehicles” for the defense forces using new and familiar models that were previously acquired for the same purpose.

Under the latest framework, Scania will supply 75 6×6 box trucks, 300 4×4 flatbed trucks with curtain siders and tail lifts, as well as 100 6×6 flatbed trucks.

Simultaneously, Volvo will produce its own versions of 6×6 flatbed trucks with curtain sider and tail lift for the project.

The contract has an option for 575 more vehicles, with the consortium to receive 1.4 million Swedish kroner ($130 million) if all terms are exercised.

Deliveries of the platforms will occur in 2025 and 2026.

“It feels really good to be able to deliver these vehicles to the Armed Forces,” Swedish Defence Materiel Administration Heavy Wheeled Vehicles Section Manager Jonas Silfver Wikstrand remarked.

“Previous deliveries have been very well received by users and the collaboration with both Volvo and Scania is a success factor in this.”

“The fact that we are now adding an additional 775 modern trucks to the Armed Forces means a strong increase in capability.”

Scania and Volvo Systems in Swedish Armed Forces

Scania and Volvo’s latest award follows the consortium’s delivery of tractor-trailers for the Swedish military in January 2025.

In 2023, Stockholm announced that it had accepted more than 500 vehicles for its ongoing tactical logistics modernization effort, with orders in 2021 and 2022.
