Saab to Supply Combat, Fire Control Systems for New Colombian Frigate

Saab has secured a contract to equip the Colombian Navy’s new frigate with advanced management systems, sensors, and radars.

The deal includes the 9LV Combat Management System and the 9LV Fire Control System, along with cutting-edge sensors and radars for Colombia’s Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie frigate program.

As part of the delivery, Saab will also provide the Ceros 200 radar, the EOS 500 electro-optical fire control director, and Sea Giraffe 4A radars.

Colombian shipbuilder COTECMAR will construct the frigate, while Damen Naval will provide engineering, technical support, and shipbuilding materials.

The vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2030.

9LV Fire Control System

The 9LV Fire Control System (FCS) is designed to enhance ships’ capabilities to detect, track, and engage multiple targets.

It optimizes the use of weapons and sensors against incoming threats while reducing operators’ workload.

The 9LV FCS includes a Surface Defence Coordination system, which helps counter direct attacks from high-speed surface craft.

Additionally, the 9LV FCS supports the planning and execution of both anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare missions.

It is compatible with a range of surface-to-surface missiles, including Saab‘s lightweight and heavyweight torpedoes.

Saab’s Latest Contracts for Maritime Warfare

Saab continues to expand its maritime defense role with recent contracts and unveilings focused on coastal surveillance and naval threat detection.

In February, Saab unveiled the Coast Control Radar at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference in the United Arab Emirates.

The system is developed to strengthen the security of territorial waters and maritime traffic.

Its compact, modular design allows for integration into buildings, towers, and bridges.

In December 2024, Sweden contracted Saab to supply the Sea Giraffe 1X radar system to enhance the detection of surface and air threats, including sea-skimming missiles.
