US, Poland Sign $1.4B in Air Defense Deals With Northrop Grumman

Northrop Grumman has secured two contracts totaling $1.4 billion to provide air and missile defense equipment for the US and Poland.

The first deal will last five years under a $481-million contract. It will provide the US Army’s Aviation Missile & Technology Consortium with software development enhancements for the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS).

To boost IBCS capacity, Northrop Grumman will integrate Polish sensors, the UK’s Common Anti-Air Modular Missile system, as well as artificial intelligence (AI) and model-based systems engineering.

The second contract, worth $899.6 million, tasks Northrop Grumman with delivering the IBCS system for Poland’s WISŁA medium-range and NAREW short-range air defense programs.

“These awards reinforce Northrop Grumman’s position as a leader in advanced integrated battle management solutions, driving innovation through artificial intelligence and model-based systems engineering to strengthen global security,” the company stated.

IBCS for Poland and US

The IBCS is designed to link sensors and effectors from different platforms into a single command and control network, allowing military forces to respond to threats more efficiently.

“Poland’s operational integration of IBCS further enhances interoperability with US forces, creating one of the world’s most advanced air defense systems,” the company added.

Last year, the US Army received the first complete set of IBCS components from Northrop Grumman and began testing and integrating various systems, including the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor and the PAC-3 missile.

In 2023, Northrop Grumman delivered key IBCS components to Warsaw.
