Indonesia has placed an order for 60 Bayraktar TB3 drones from Turkey to enhance its ability to conduct surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision strikes.
The deal was signed between Turkish firm Baykar and Indonesian defense company Republikorp during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to Jakarta.
It also follows an agreement between the two countries to strengthen trade and defense relations, including the creation of a joint venture to develop advanced unmanned aerial systems.
Upon delivery, Indonesia will become the first foreign operator of the cutting-edge Turkish drones.
In addition to the TB3, Baykar and Republikorp have signed a joint production agreement to export nine Akıncı drones.
Advanced Features
The Bayraktar TB3 is an upgraded version of the widely used TB2 drone, which has been deployed by numerous militaries around the world.
The drone is equipped to carry smart munitions under its wings, enabling precise combat operations where accuracy is essential.
Its unique folding wing design allows the TB3 to operate from aircraft carriers, such as Turkey’s TCG Anadolu.
Unlike other drones in its class, the TB3 can take off and land on short runways, eliminating the need for large, specialized airstrips.
According to Baykar, the advanced platform can reach altitudes of 20,000 feet (6,096 meters) and speeds of over 110 knots (203 kilometers/126 miles per hour).
It also boasts flight endurance of more than 21 hours, making it well-suited for extended surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat missions.
