Iran Showcases Upgraded Bavar-373 Air Defense System During Drills

Iran unveiled an upgraded version of its domestically-developed Bavar-373 air defense missile system during the “Eqtedar” military drills in the central province of Isfahan.

The modernized Bavar-373 launcher features a new integrated radar system that allows it to independently track targets.

During the exercises, the Bavar-373 engaged and downed an adversary aircraft in the Kavir desert while operating alongside a Russian-made S-300, Iranian state news media reported.

The combined use of the S-300 and Bavar-373 air defense systems reportedly improves the ability to counter high-altitude threats.

Boosting Security

As Tehran seeks to enhance its deterrence capabilities amid increasing tensions in the region, in recent weeks the country has unveiled various systems for defense and combat scenarios.

Earlier this month, Iran showcased its first drone carrier vessel, described by a Guards naval commander as the “largest naval military project” in the Islamic Republic’s history.

In January, the Middle Eastern country presented its new heavy-duty drone dubbed “Gaza,” which is reportedly capable of flying up to 4,000 kilometers (2,485 miles) and carrying up to 13 precision-guided glide bombs in a single mission.

Last month, Tehran unveiled an underground naval base housing dozens of assault boats equipped with anti-ship missiles and a new ballistic missile model “capable of reaching Israel,” state media reported.
