US Army Purchases Infantry Squad Vehicles From GM Defense

GM Defense has received a contract to supply its Infantry Squad Vehicles (ISV) to the US Army.

The $44.8-million firm-fixed-price deal stipulates an unspecified number of the system, with work locations and funding to be determined through future orders.

Deliveries are expected to continue until December 2025, according to a notice released by the US Department of Defense.

GM’s ISV System

The ISV is based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 midsize truck, which is fitted with approximately 90 percent commercial-off-the-shelf components to meet the US Army’s modern light utility vehicle requirements.

It features a 2.8-liter Duramax turbo diesel engine with 275 horsepower, an automatic 6-speed transmission, a rollover protection system, and infrared lights.

Armaments that can be integrated into the platform include a counter-drone laser energy weapon, light and heavy machine guns, and grenade launchers.

The ISV has a payload capacity of 3,200 pounds (1,451 kilograms) and seating configurations for up to nine passengers.

The vehicle can be transported by UH-60 Blackhawk, CH-47 Chinook, and CH-53 Stallion helicopters.

It can also be deployed via low-velocity airdrop from a C-17 Globemaster III, C-130 Hercules, and A400M Atlas cargo aircraft.

Vehicle Test for UAE

GM Defense’s latest ISV transaction followed the company’s one-week demonstration of the platform for the UAE Armed Forces in March last year.

The trial is part of Abu Dhabi’s intent to adopt the vehicle into its military and boost its industrial base with the local development of ISVs.
