Teledyne FLIR has secured a contract worth up to $74.2 million to provide modernized imaging surveillance systems for the US Coast Guard.

Under a five-year contract, the company will deliver more than 125 Electro-Optic Sensor System-Modernized (ESS-M) systems for use on Coast Guard rotary-wing aircraft.

The system will be integrated into the MH-60 and MH-65 fleets, with delivery scheduled for the end of this year.

“The significant updates through ESS-M will enable the US Coast Guard to stay on technology’s cutting edge while conducting its wide range of key maritime operations,” Teledyne FLIR Defense President JihFen Lei stated.

Features

The ESS-M platform will support the Coast Guard’s missions to enhance coastal security, protect ports and waterways, and conduct rapid response operations.

The platform features high-definition daylight, low-light, and infrared imagery.

The system also integrates a full-HD sensor suite, modernized user interfaces, and advanced processing capabilities.

Moreover, the technology allows for software enhancements to support future upgrades.

Recent Projects

Teledyne FLIR specializes in thermal imaging and surveillance sensors for applications across air, land, and maritime domains.

The company also designs advanced sensing devices for detecting chemicals, biological agents, radiation, and explosives.

In November 2024, Red Cat Holdings selected Teledyne FLIR to supply advanced thermal imaging cameras for the US Army’s short-range reconnaissance drones.

The agreement includes integrating the company’s Hadron 640R+ infrared camera module into the Black Widow unmanned aircraft system to improve its nighttime performance.

In October last year, Teledyne FLIR unveiled its Cerberus XL system, a counter-drone solution capable of simultaneously detecting up to 500 targets.
