Saab to Open Facility in Finland for Electronic Warfare Sensor Production

Swedish defense firm Saab has announced plans to launch a new production facility in Finland to expand the manufacturing of Sirius Compact passive electronic warfare sensors.

Operations will enable large-scale production of advanced sensor technology to meet increasing demand.

The facility will be located in Tampere, southern Finland, and is expected to begin operations early this year.

“Saab’s footprint is growing in Finland with a focus on research and development operations in the field of electronic warfare,” said Kristian Tornivaara, Managing Director of Saab Finland.

“This initiative underscores Saab’s commitment to provide cutting-edge defense solutions to customers.”

Sirius Compact

The Sirius Compact family of passive surveillance sensors is designed to detect, geo-locate, and classify hostile radar and communication emitters.

They can be integrated into various platforms, including drones, vehicles, vessels, and man-portable systems.

Sirius Compact sensors analyze and compile signal information to deliver situational awareness without storing sensitive data, enhancing security.

While detecting electromagnetic emissions, the system does not emit sound or signals to remain undetected by adversary systems.

Sirius Compact can function as a standalone unit or as part of a network with multiple sensors.

It also provides early warning capabilities, supporting ground-based air defense platforms with precise target information.
