Denmark will release its 23rd military aid package, valued at 2.1 billion Danish kroner ($303 million), to bolster Ukraine’s air defense.
The donation includes funding for the maintenance of Ukrainian F-16 aircraft.
The Danish government announced that the aid will be provided through international partners, including reallocations from the Ukraine Fund and the European Peace Facility.
In addition, the Scandinavian country will send personnel to support NATO’s assistance to Ukraine and extend funding for Danish personnel involved in the EU’s military support mission for Kyiv.
“One of Ukraine’s most urgent needs is to be able to defend itself against Russian missiles and drones. Therefore, we have prioritized more support for air defense,” stated Denmark’s Minister of Defence, Troels Lund Poulsen.
F-16 Jets for Kyiv
Denmark, alongside the Netherlands, is leading the F-16 transfer and training for Ukrainian pilots.
Kyiv received its first batch of US-made F-16 fighter jets in August.
Two months earlier, Denmark authorized the deployment of the fourth-generation jets to target Russian weapons depots and other critical facilities.
However, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen emphasized that Ukraine remains restricted from using the jets for “arbitrary attacks” on Russian territory that could endanger civilians.
In 2023, the US provided “formal assurances” to Copenhagen and Amsterdam, allowing them to transfer F-16s to Kyiv.
Funding Military Aid
Denmark is coordinating with other European countries and institutions to provide comprehensive military support to Ukraine.
Earlier this month, Denmark pledged financial support for Sweden’s donation of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine and the production of additional vehicles worth 1.8 billion Danish kroner ($264 million).
To date, Copenhagen has allocated 53 billion kroner (approximately $7.8 billion) for military aid to Ukraine from 2022 to 2028.
