German tech firm ARX Robotics has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled operating system capable of transforming military vehicles into intelligent, interconnected autonomous units.

Dubbed the ARX Mithra OS, the solution features a legacy autonomy kit that equips conventional vehicles with advanced AI capabilities, enabling adaptive navigation, autonomous reconnaissance, and remote operations.

It is complemented by high-resolution cameras and sensors, which can be mounted on military trucks to enhance its functionality.

Once integrated, the ARX Mithra OS allows vehicle fleets of various types to connect seamlessly, enhancing operational effectiveness while reducing the need for human operators.

It also enables legacy vehicles to function as “battlefield wingmen,” supporting manned-unmanned teaming.

A ‘Viable’ Solution

ARX Robotics founder Marc Wietfeld emphasized that the battlefield is rapidly becoming digital, with more countries increasingly relying on unmanned systems.

However, despite the evolving nature of warfare, armed forces around the world still procure conventional assets like vehicles to support their operations for years to come.

As militaries seek to modernize their defense capabilities, replacing entire fleets with new vehicles proves to be both expensive and impractical.

“We have achieved this with our software-enabled hardware and our Mithra operating system, designed for both unmanned systems and existing military fleets, bridging the gap between the old world and the new, future-ready one,” Wietfeld explained.
