A Russian strike on the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rig killed two people and wounded another eight, the local governor said Friday.

The aerial attack comes after weeks of escalation in the near three-year war, with Moscow stepping up its attacks at the start of freezing cold winter months.

“In Kryvyi Rig, two people were killed,” Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Sergiy Lysak said in a post on Telegram.

Another eight were wounded and rescuers were searching the building for one missing person, he added.

One of those hospitalized in the attack was a six-year-old child, Lysak said.

Kryvyi Rig has been targeted frequently by Russian aerial strikes since Moscow invaded in 2022.

It lies around 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the frontlines in southern Ukraine.
