Helsing Unveils Swarm-Capable Strike Drone Equipped With AI
European AI defense company Helsing has unveiled a new strike drone called “HX-2,” which is already in production and has its core technology deployed in Ukraine.
HX-2 is equipped with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities for full electronic warfare and jamming resistance, based on technology that has been developed and tested in Ukraine.
The x-winged precision munition is powered by electric motors that enable it to operate and engage targets at a distance of up to 100 kilometers (62 miles).
Multiple units can assemble into swarms under the control of single human operators, especially when integrated with the company’s Altra recce/strike software.
Helsing co-founder Gundbert Scherf pointed out that as “electronic warfare has threatened to erode the ability to act,” the software-based and AI-equipped drone is providing autonomy “while retaining full human control and oversight.”
The system is designed to be mass-producible at a more affordable cost compared to traditional platforms.
“With HX-2, we are creating a new smart effector category that combines mass, autonomy and precision. Individual HX-2s can reliably engage armored targets in highly contested environments,” Helsing co-founder Niklas Köhler explained.
“When deployed along borders at scale, HX-2 can serve as a powerful counter invasion shield against enemy land forces.”
The company’s strike drone is in line with NATO’s urgent requirement for technology to strengthen the defense capabilities of its eastern flank, according to Scherf.
