Fincantieri has delivered the “Al Fulk” amphibious vessel Landing Platform Dock (LPD) to the Ministry of Defense of Qatar.

The craft can perform various missions, including defense operations, support for ground forces, and humanitarian support.

The delivery ceremony was attended by several officials, including the Commander of Qatar Naval Forces, Abdullah Bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, the Director of Italian Navy Military Personnel Andrea Gueglio, as well as Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero.

“We are proud to bring on board another innovative vessel, boasting cutting-edge technologies and unique features, to meet the challenges of the future and make our seas a safer place,” the company stated.

The vessel is 143 meters (469 feet) long with a capacity for 550 people.

It is equipped with a large flight deck capable of carrying several NH90 helicopters.

It has a large garage with two vehicle ramps and a floodable internal dock for deploying landing craft.

The Al Fulk LPD was built in the Fincantieri yards of Palermo and Muggiano and is designed in accordance with the Rinamil regulation for the classification of military vessels in air, sea, and land operations.

The vessel was launched in 2023 following a 4-billion-euro ($4.3 billion) contract between Doha and the Italian shipbuilder signed in 2016 to develop seven different surface vehicles.

Included in the same deal, Fincantieri delivered to Qatar its fourth Al Zubarah-class corvette, “Semaisma,” in May last year.
