Brazilian firm Embraer has selected Fokker Services Group to deliver an extended modification package for nine Dutch C-390 military aircraft.

The contract includes turnkey engineering, certification, and modification services to enhance the aircraft’s capabilities for NATO operations and other military and humanitarian missions.

“We are delighted with our continued cooperation and partnership with Embraer and look forward to making this Defence & Security agreement a success,” said Menzo van der Beek and Roland van Dijk, co-CEOs of Fokker.

The initiative “will create a valuable advantage in becoming a partner of choice for other programs for NATO, [the] United Nations or other organizations and operators,” added Robert Koolen, Fokker’s Sales Director.

Features

The C-390 Millennium can operate in multiple configurations, carrying a maximum load of 57,320 pounds (26,000 kilograms).

It can be configured for medical evacuation missions, accommodating 36 passengers and 50 stretchers or up to 80 litters.

The aircraft is capable of transporting 64 paratroopers, 80 personnel, and light or heavy vehicles, including Black Hawk-sized helicopters.

Additionally, the C-390 supports air-to-air refueling operations and features several advanced systems, including a tactical radar with high-resolution imaging and a spotlight synthetic aperture radar.

C-390 Program

Earlier this month, Embraer signed an agreement with the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre for the C-390 Millennium’s maintenance and virtual training.

The deal includes collaboration with Rheinmetall and Dutch and international suppliers to provide components for the aircraft’s full-flight mission simulator.

In July, the Netherlands and Austria launched a joint military acquisition program, contracting Embraer to deliver nine C-390 Millennium transport aircraft — five for Amsterdam and four for Vienna — to replace their C-130H Hercules fleets.
