Elbit America to Upgrade USAF F-16 Block 40/42 ‘Head-Up’ Display

The US Air Force has contracted Elbit Systems of America to supply F-16 Block 40/42 Wide-Angle Conventional Head-Up Display (WACHUD) replacements.

The up to $89 million contract will be executed through September 2027, with the first delivery order of over $57.5 million having been placed in September. Work will take place in Talladega, Alabama.

“The Wide-Angle Conventional Head-Up Display replacements provide modernization, but also commonality across the US Air Force’s F-16 fleet,” Elbit America Senior Vice President of Electronic Systems Scott Tumpak said

“This commonality benefits the pilots, maintainers and supply chain, as the single configuration is easier to manage and maintain across the entire F-16 fleet.”

The WACHUD system will replace the Diffractive Optic Head-Up Displays currently in use with a section of the US Air Force’s F-16 fleet.

It sits atop the F-16’s instrument panel and displays critical flight and mission-related information, allowing faster and more reliable information processing.

“Our Talladega workforce is the perfect choice to conduct this replacement work for the US Air Force,” Elbit America Vice President of Operations Jimmy Johns said.

“We know the F-16 aircraft well, having supported the majority of the aircrafts’ avionics and Head-Up Displays for decades. We look forward to this multi-year program and the continued expansion of our aftermarket services.”
