AeroVironment to Acquire BlueHalo for $4.1B

Unmanned aerial systems developer AeroVironment has announced its plan to acquire BlueHalo in a deal valued at $4.1 billion.

The decision supports AeroVironment’s goal of expanding its portfolio of electronic warfare, cyber, satellite technologies, and other space-based solutions.

The commitment to acquire BlueHalo was approved by both organizations and is expected to close by the first half of 2025 after associated regulatory and shareholder articles are cleared, according to AeroVironment.

Once the contract is settled, the Virginia-based companies are expected to deliver over $1.7 billion in combined revenue.

Currently, AeroVironment is engaged with multiple US military projects, with a recent focus on the supply of loitering munitions for the US Army.

Meanwhile, BlueHalo is working on a $1.4-billion effort to support the full lifecycle operations, production, and continuous modernization of the US Space Force’s ground-based satellite communication infrastructure.

“For over 50 years, [AeroVironment] has pioneered innovative solutions on the battlefield, and today we are poised to usher in the next era of defense technology through our combination with BlueHalo,” AeroVironment Chairman Wahid Nawabi stated.

“Together, we will drive agile innovation and deliver comprehensive, next-generation solutions designed to redefine the future of defense.”

BlueHalo CEO Jonathan Moneymaker added that the acquisition will result in a team “equipped to meet emerging defense priorities and deliver purpose-driven, state-of-the-art solutions with unmatched speed.”

“Together, we remain committed to protecting those who defend us while driving the next generation of transformational advancements in defense technology,” he said.
