MSA Safety has secured a $33-million contract to deliver new respiratory protective solutions to the US Coast Guard.
The project will supply the Pennsylvania-based company’s proprietary G1 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment to the service’s operational surface fleet and support facilities.
An initial order of $22 million was already placed in the third quarter of this year to manufacture the systems, according to the firm.
The project will extend to 10 years if all options are exercised. Production of the kits is now being facilitated at MSA’s factory in Murrysville, Pennsylvania.
The G1 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
MSA highlighted that the G1 SCBA has 15 patents for its situational awareness, efficiency, safety, comfort, and firefighter utility features.
Components attached to the capability include voice amplification and a radio interface for clear voice communication exchange as well as a harness and cylindrical canister attached to an adjustable belt for proper weight distribution during operations.
It also includes a battery-rechargeable, cloud-based advanced electronics device that relays inventory management, monitoring, and incident reporting data between users and team leaders.

MSA accepted a similar contract in December 2023 to provide its G1 SCBA technology to global US Air Force installations.
