The US State Department has approved a $160 million foreign military sale of F-16 engine support services to Greece.

The package includes engine maintenance, spare parts, ground handling equipment, software, logistics, and technical documentation, ensuring sustained operational readiness.

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency stated that this sale would contribute to national and international security, strengthening Athens’ capabilities to enhance the security of NATO in the Eastern Mediterranean.

F-16 Fleet Modernization

In 2018, Greece began upgrading its US-manufactured F-16s to the Viper configuration as part of a $1.5-billion program.

Four years later, the European nation received its first two upgraded fighter aircraft.

The country expects the delivery of 81 upgraded planes by 2027.

US Aircraft Sales to Greece

In recent years, Washington has signed several contracts to supply Athens with new equipment for its air force.

In July, the US formalized an acquisition order to deliver 20 F-35 Lightning II fighter jets to Greece.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis requested the Lockheed Martin-made jets in 2022, expecting possible delivery in 2027 or 2028.

In April, the European country signed an agreement to purchase 35 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from the US.

The foreign military sale is estimated at $1.95 billion, including personnel training and related equipment to facilitate the integration of the rotorcraft into the Hellenic Army.
