Iveco has signed an agreement to supply functional parts for upcoming armored vehicles under the Leonardo-Rheinmetall joint venture.

In October, Italy’s Leonardo and Germany’s Rheinmetall announced a strategic partnership to develop new main battle tanks intended to replace the Italian Army’s aging Ariete.

The collaboration has formed a joint entity known as Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles, with Iveco’s involvement potentially contributing up to 15 percent of the total activities related to the design and production of tracked combat ground vehicles.

“The collaboration will leverage the company’s expertise, which spans from advanced propulsion and drivetrain systems for military vehicles to highly specialized protection technologies,” stated Iveco’s press release.

Iveco Partnerships

Iveco’s relationship with Leonardo is well-established through the Iveco – Oto Melara Consortium.

This partnership secured a contract in July with the Italian government to deliver 28 Centauro anti-tank vehicles, including a decade of logistic support.

Additionally, Iveco recently entered into a cooperation with German firm RENK to expedite the production of military propulsion systems for tracked vehicles.

Expanding Order Portfolio

Iveco’s achievements have propelled its order portfolio beyond 4 billion euros ($4.2 billion) as of last year.

In July, the Brazilian Army purchased 420 LMV-BR 2 (Light Multirole Vehicle), awarding Iveco with a contract worth 1.4 billion Brazilian reals ($257.3 million).

Earlier this year, Australia received its first batch of Iveco-made Military Utility Vehicles (MUVs), previously procured under a 42.5-million-euro ($46 million) deal for 125 MUVs, command support systems, and radio links.
