Swedish defense company Saab has received an amended contract worth 20 million British pounds ($26 million) to expand its support of the British Army’s live training in Oman.
The Instrumented Live Training contract was first signed in April 2024.
In the recently amended deal, Saab will provide training and simulation equipment, including a high-fidelity system that simulates combat scenarios and records detailed results that can be reviewed to improve training outcomes.
It will be integrated into the UK Ministry of Defence’s existing Tactical Engagement Simulation capability for continuity in training standards.
The British Army’s system can also be deployed outside of Oman, while Saab’s simulation equipment can be integrated with other systems using applicable NATO standards.
Additionally, Saab technicians will provide training services at every stage of deployment and manage the Exercise Control environment, including the recorded data to support objective measurement of the training.
Deliveries are scheduled throughout 2024 and 2025.

Training and Simulation Systems Portfolio Leader for Defence Equipment & Support Simon Pearce noted that “this contract amendment reinforces the partnership between the British Army, the Royal Army of Oman, and Saab, showcasing our commitment to delivering superior training solutions.”
“It aligns with the evolving demands of warfare and the goals of the Collective Training Transformation Programme,” he added.
