UAE firm EDGE has signed three agreements with Turkish ammunition manufacturer ASSAN to supply MK aerial munitions components.

MK munitions, used in air-dropped bombs, are compatible with various guidance kits.

Under the first agreement, EDGE subsidiary LAHAB will supply MK munitions to ASSAN, enhancing availability for customers across Africa. This partnership aims to promote mutual growth through an exchange of resources and technical expertise.

In a parallel effort, LAHAB will introduce Warsaw-configured MK munitions to its existing portfolio with support from ASSAN to meet the needs of its current customers.

A third agreement designates ASSAN as a key supplier of NATO-standard MK munitions components to LAHAB, a move expected to strengthen LAHAB’s supply chain.

“These agreements with ASSAN Group represent a pivotal move in strengthening our international partnerships and expanding our global footprint,” EDGE Managing Director Hamad Al Marar said.

Emin Öner, Chairman of ASSAN Group, described the partnership as an “important step toward getting into the global defense market.”

UAE-Turkey Defense Relations

Turkish and Emirati companies have consolidated several partnerships in the defense sector.

Earlier this year, EDGE signed a deal with the Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar to equip its TB2s with Desert Sting 16 GPS- and laser-guided bombs.

In 2023, the two countries’ leaders signed a set of agreements worth $50.7 billion to establish a strategic economic collaboration, which included investments to strengthen defense industry relations, particularly in land and naval unmanned systems and air defense.

The same year, Abu Dhabi and Ankara signed a defense cooperation agreement between UAE-based Black Cobra Military Supplies and Turkey’s Defense and Aviation Cluster.
