Ottawa is investing 64.8 million Canadian dollars ($46.8 million) in military aid to support Ukraine against Russia’s continuing invasion.
Approximately 27.3 million dollars ($19.7 million) of the package will be used to source small arms and ammunition from Canadian industry.
Another 20 million ($14.4 million) will be for military uniforms and personal protective equipment for about 30,000 Ukrainian Armed Forces women servicemembers.
Additionally, Canada will reserve 10.5 million dollars ($7.5 million) for proficiency efforts, 5 million ($3.6 million) for the multinational drone donation coalition for Ukraine, and 2 million ($1.4 million) for cyber capabilities.
Ottawa’s aid is part of a broader 500-million-dollar ($361.6-million) pledge this year for Ukraine revealed by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a NATO assembly in July.
Since Russia’s attack in 2022, the North American government has committed more than 19.5 billion dollars ($14.1 billion) to Ukraine, 4.5 billion ($3.2 billion) of which was set aside for military articles.
“Canada stands united with its Allies and partners in our unwavering support for Ukraine as it fights for its freedom and security,” Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair stated.
“The military assistance announced today provides Ukraine with important resources needed to defend itself against Russian aggression. Canada will continue to do what it takes to help them achieve victory.”
