BAE, Kongsberg Pitch New Battlefield Awareness Tech to US Military

BAE Systems has entered into a teaming agreement with Norway’s Kongsberg to introduce the Integrated Combat Solution (ICS) to the US military.

The ICS is designed to significantly improve the battlefield situational awareness of combat vehicles, thereby increasing the survivability of soldiers on board.

It allows the crew to share target information, slew-to-cue commands, and video streams of the surroundings to streamline threat response and decision-making.

“The ability for troops to rapidly pass targeting information across the battlefield to other platforms and engage a target remotely is critical to their mission,” BAE VP for Combat Mission Systems Andy Corea noted.

The ICS is developed by Kongsberg and integrated into combat vehicles by BAE Systems.

Potential Platforms

According to BAE, the ICS can be used across a wide variety of armored vehicles in service with the US Army and US Marine Corps.

With an open systems architecture, the tool is compatible with any battlefield platform equipped with a weapon system and on-board sensors.

The ICS has previously been demonstrated on Amphibious Combat Vehicles and Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicles.

Once integrated, the tech would reportedly enable warfighters to match the rapid pace of future warfare, keeping them aware and safer in the fight.

“Together we will deliver ICS as a core enabler of modern warfare, providing all-domain visibility, command and control,” Kongsberg’s VP of Defense Systems Kjetil Reiten Myhra explained.

“This force multiplier streamlines complicated threat responses, networking mobility platforms and other assets for increased combat capability.”
