Germany has signed a framework agreement with Junghans Microtec for the procurement of 180,000 time fuses for 155mm artillery projectiles.

The 10-year production and delivery agreement covers the DM52 electronic time artillery fuse, which is designed for illuminating, smoke, and sensor-fused ammunition.

The procurement will be financed through a German parliament special fund, with an optional additional procurement of 90,000 fuses, Hart Punkt wrote, citing the procurement statement.

A pilot batch of fuses will be selected this year, with delivery expected to start within the next two years.

The procurement covers the German military’s current and future requirements.

According to the German manufacturer, the fuse can be used with 155 mm and 105 mm artillery as well as with 120 mm rifled mortars.

It is fully compliant with the flick ramming system of modern 39 caliber and 52 caliber howitzers and has a time range from 2 to 199.9 seconds, in 0.1 second increments.

The German military plans to use the fuse for the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer during operations, exercises, and training.

It features enhanced safety during storage, transportation, and operational use and has a shelf life of 15 years.
