Conti Federal to Construct B-21 Fuel Cell Hangar at Ellsworth AFB

The US Air Force has awarded Conti Federal a $31.7-million deal to establish a B-21 Raider stealth bomber fuel cell hangar at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota.

The project will convert the installation’s existing Dock 81 to Fuel Cell Hangar B7242, comprising fuel systems maintenance supporting the precision strike aircraft.

At approximately 26,000 square feet (2,415 square meters), the site will include a fuel cell bay to fit one aircraft, sustainment storage spaces, and service utility divisions.

Renovations will deliver a corridor connecting the hangar to the Fuels Systems Maintenance Dock currently under construction by the company.

Conti will finalize the construction of the B-21 Fuel Cell Hangar by November 2026.

Upon completion, both the Fuel Cell Hangar B7242 and the Fuels Systems Maintenance Dock will operate alongside the Radio Frequency Hub, Phase Maintenance Hangar, and Weapons Loader Training Center which were also contracted with Conti at Ellsworth.

“This is our fifth project in support of the B-21 beddown program at Ellsworth Air Force Base, so I am very confident in our team’s readiness to construct this latest mission-critical hangar facility,” Conti Federal US Operations Vice President Ryan Kanzleiter stated.

“While aircraft hangars are uniquely tailored to each installation, we have the know-how and expertise to support this project. This award creates construction efficiencies with our adjacent Fuel Systems Maintenance Dock project and provides critical mission readiness for the US Air Force.”

Latest Defense Infrastructure Deals

Conti received a separate $29.6-million award earlier in October to establish a US Army Reserve Training Center in Puerto Rico.

Another contract was signed by the firm the same month to deliver its expertise for the Pentagon’s multiple infrastructure efforts in Poland.
