The US has agreed to provide Poland with a $3.08 billion loan for the purchase of American weapons under the foreign military financing (FMF) program.
This marks the third FMF loan in a year to Poland, taking the total amount to $7.08 billion.
The latest loan will be used to procure AH-64 Apache attack helicopters from US manufacturer Boeing.
A $10 billion deal was signed by Poland in August this year for the purchase of 96 Apaches, with deliveries scheduled between 2028 and 2032.
Previous loans of $2 billion each were approved in September 2023 and in July 2024.
Foreign Military Financing
The FMF mechanism is reserved for Washington’s most important security cooperation partners and mandates spending on American-made weapons.
Since the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Warsaw has ordered tens of billions of dollars worth of defense platforms, including the US-made F-35, Patriot air defense systems, and Abrams main battle tanks.
This spending contributed to the US recording $80.9 billion in foreign military sales (FMS) in fiscal year 2023, a 55.9 percent increase over the previous year.
It is the highest FMS total ever, with US allies and partner nations funding $62.25 billion and the remainder funded by the US.
