Franco-German defense group KNDS launched its Ukrainian subsidiary in Kyiv this week.
Called KNDS Ukraine LLC, the subsidiary will enable local firms to carry out maintenance, repair, and overhaul of KNDS platforms delivered to Ukraine, increasing their availability.
An estimated 800 KNDS systems have either been delivered or are contracted for delivery to Ukraine, including Leopard 1 and 2 main battle tanks, the Caesar truck-mounted artillery system, the PzH 2000 howitzer, and the Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun.
The subsidiary will use 3D printing for spare parts manufacturing and link up with local firms for the production of 155mm artillery shells for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Ammo Production in 12 Months
Meanwhile, KNDS France signed a letter of intent with Ukraine’s ENMEK in June to establish a maintenance center for Caesar cannons and for 3D printing of spare parts in Ukraine.
A similar agreement was signed with Ukrainian KZVV for the transfer of production of 155mm rounds.
Additionally, KNDS plans to start ammunition production in Ukraine in 12 months, which will be followed by the production of system modules and the whole systems, Defense News wrote in June, citing KNDS chairman Philippe Petitcolin.
