The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) has received a new C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft delivered by Embraer at Galeão Air Force Base in Rio de Janeiro.
The delivery is the seventh C-390 tactical transport aircraft for the Brazilian First Squadron of the First Transport Group, marking five years that Embraer has served the FAB.
“The C-390 Millennium has demonstrated operational qualities, reliability, and versatility, performing the most demanding missions anytime, anywhere, with the Brazilian Air Force,” stated Embraer President and CEO Bosco da Costa Junior.
“With the delivery of this brand-new aircraft, we are proud to contribute even more to the operational success of the FAB’s missions,” he added.
Brazil started operations with the C-390 Millennium in 2019 for both military and civilian missions, including transporting supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With a maximum payload of 26 tons and a top speed of 470 knots (870 kilometers/540 miles per hour), the aircraft has great functional versatility.
It can transport cargo, personnel, and vehicles, as well as perform search and rescue, firefighting, and air-to-air refueling.
The FAB stated that, in the month of September, the C-390 Millennium successfully contributed to 100 firefighting missions in the difficult-to-access area of Pantanal, where fires have been ongoing since July.
Besides Brazil, several other nations have selected the Embraer C-390 aircraft, including Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, and South Korea.
