BAE Systems to Open New Production Facility in Sweden

Swedish builder NCC has signed a contract to build a new facility for BAE Systems Hägglunds in Gullänget, Örnsköldsvik, in the country’s east.

The 560-million Swedish krona ($54.9 million) infrastructure will consist of a primary production space, workshops, terminals, staff areas, and garages.

It will encompass approximately 12,000 square meters (129,167 square feet) in the district.

NCC is now processing the construction of the hub. Related tasks will run until the spring of 2026.

“This assignment is a good match for NCC’s expertise in security classified buildings. We have an excellent partnership with BAE Systems Hägglunds and look forward to realizing a project that NCC has been involved in for some time,” NCC Building Sweden Head Niklas Sparw stated.

“It paves the way for a successful collaboration with an important business for Örnsköldsvik.”

Hägglunds in Defense Industry

BAE Systems Hägglunds offers manufacturing and upkeep of combat, armored engineering, and personnel carrier vehicles for international military customers.

Among its successful products is the CV90 infantry fighting vehicle, which is currently operational in seven countries, including Sweden.

The vehicle’s users will increase to 10 once the latest orders from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Ukraine are delivered.

Recent Infrastructure Projects

BAE Systems launched a separate infrastructure effort in April to modernize a large US Army ammunition plant in Virginia.

In October 2023, the firm launched the construction of a new shipbuilding facility in Scotland to boost surface mission support for the Royal Navy. This followed the establishment of a ship repair station and a research center in the US.

Four months earlier, BAE negotiated with the Ukrainian government to build a weapons factory in the Eastern European country.
