Photonis Delivers Image Intensifier Tubes for Australian Night Vision Binoculars

Exosens subsidiary Photonis has delivered 18mm image intensifier tubes to Theon Sensors for integration with the Australian Army’s NYX night vision binoculars.

A total of 120 NYX binoculars were integrated with the 4G+ P45 (white phosphor) tubes by Theon’s Australian partner Force Ordnance.

The dual tube binoculars are used for training Australia’s allied forces across Southeast Asia and the Pacific, and can be helmet-mounted, head-mounted, or hand-held.

4G+ Image Intensifier Tube

The 4G+ technology offers greater bandwidth for superior image quality across field conditions, the French electro-optical sensors manufacturer explained.

Additionally, rapid auto-gating enables swift adjustments while a small halo provides more details around light sources.

The tube enables extended operational range, “enhancing situational awareness for dismounted soldiers and military vehicle drivers alike,” according to Exosens.

“As warfare evolves alongside technology, we remain committed to innovation, delivering enhanced solutions for soldiers,” Chief Commercial Officer of Exosens Frederic Guilhem said.

“With persistent global security threats, equipping the Australian armed forces with advanced technologies is crucial to maintaining a strategic advantage.”

ITAR-free

Moreover, the non-ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) restricted device allows unrestricted international export and sharing of technology.

“The ITAR-free status of these image intensifiers provides a significant edge in the defense sector, where collaboration and global reach are paramount,” Exosens explained.

“This accessibility underscores the intensifier tubes’ rapid deployment capabilities, empowering defense forces globally to swiftly adopt cutting- edge technology and enhance their operational effectiveness.”
