The Canadian Department of Defence will open high-rise accommodation for warfighters at the Esquimalt base on Vancouver Island.
The 165-million Canadian dollar ($120.1 million) project covers 31,700 square meters (341,216 square feet) of land and will consist of up to 480 single occupancy rooms.
The center’s facilities will include administrative spaces, a postal hub, and coffee shops.
Additional infrastructure will consist of a 400-person mess hall as well as a dining area and galley that can serve up to 700 soldiers.
Upon completion, the new Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt building will house the Royal Canadian Navy’s future Junior Non-Commission Members.
Work for the design is valued at 10.1 million Canadian dollars ($7.3 million) and has been awarded to Mississauga.
Ottawa expects the effort to support approximately 900 roles during the construction phase.
The initiative will commence in 2026 and will run until the early 2030s.
“Canadian Armed Forces members stand ready to defend Canada every day,” Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair said. “Wherever they are posted, service members should not have to worry about finding a suitable home.”
