L3Harris Opens Electronic Warfare Center in Australia

L3Harris has inaugurated a new facility in Brisbane, Queensland, to enhance electronic warfare (EW) support for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

The site is part of the company’s objective to establish support centers closer to the ADF, reducing timelines and associated challenges for the service.

The new hub incorporates the design, production, integration, and maintenance services of EW solutions used in advanced tactical missions. Furthermore, the center is positioned to increase domestic manufacturing capabilities and opportunities in areas such as robotics, data management, quantum sensing, and communications.

The site will also offer space, intelligence, and cyber products for Canberra and its allies in the Indo-Pacific region.

The company noted that the facility will also amplify supplies of its T4 and T7 unmanned ground systems for the ADF’s ongoing explosive ordnance disposal systems modernization effort.

“Queensland is a Defence state, and the government supports Defence industries via the Queensland Defence Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan, as well as the Queensland Space Industry Strategy,” Jennifer Howard MP, Assistant Minister for Treasury, Trade and Investment for Queensland said.

“L3Harris’ new operations in Queensland will contribute to a vibrant and growing defence supply chain, with their investment helping them better support the needs of the Australian Defence Force and the Australian defence industry.”

Leveraging Local Workforce

To date, L3HArris has 15 locations throughout the nation and employs approximately 550 people, 30 percent of which are ex-ADF members.

“The launch of our Centre of Excellence is a clear signal of L3Harris’ commitment to lead and shape the future of defence technology in Australia, for Australia, by our incredibly talented local workforce,” L3Harris Space and Airborne Systems President Ed Zoiss remarked during the EW facility opening ceremony.

“As we embark on this journey, we extend our gratitude to the ADF for their trust and partnership.”
